Our story

Built from love.
Designed for impact.

I'm Scott Davis, Redding, CA native and software designer. Our thirteen-year-old son, Ezekiel "Bubby" Davis, is autistic and non-verbal, and for years, our family has navigated the daily challenges of raising a special needs child, constantly searching for ways to help him express his thoughts, feelings, and choices.

We tried the communication apps available on the market, but we continually ran into the same three frustrating barriers:

  • AAC apps lacking core features
  • Clunky UX and not easy to use
  • High price tag for majority of them

IconSpeak is my way of using my talents for design, and our lived experience to give back. It is a modern, clean, and accessible speech app designed to remove the frustration from augmentative communication. We built it to ease the challenges we've lived through, and to empower individuals everywhere to connect with the world around them—simply, and affordably.

Icons & Sentence Strip

Tap a picture. Hear the word.

A full library of picture icons, sorted into categories like core words, food, drink and activities. Tap one and it speaks. Tap several and they build a sentence in the strip along the top, ready to play back as one phrase. Choose from nine grid sizes so the tiles fit the hands using them.

Every user is different. So is every setup.

Set the grid size, scale the pictures and the label text independently, move labels above or below the image, and resize the sentence bar. Add a profile for each person who uses the device, each with their own icons, boards and voice — then lock it all behind a parental gate.
